A rare and enviable career right has been claimed by South Africa’s top professional road cyclist on the international, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, who took time this week to post news that 2022 would the final season on the road for her.
“The news is officially out …”, said Moolman Pasio on Instagram, continuing: “2022 will be my last season as a pro road cyclist.”
“It won’t however be the end of my cycling journey; I’ll be stepping away from professional road cycling to be more active in my business Rocacorba Cycling and Rocacorba Collective … and to put my passion for business strategy into practise full-time, by continuing to help grow women’s cycling more actively.
“And who knows …,” teased Moolman Pasio, “You might find me on the start line of a gravel, MTB or eSports race in 2023!”
It is so often the case that our elite athletes do not have the chance, or fail to act on the opportunity, to claim their flowers and allow their supporters to revel in their athletic prowess, but it comes as no surprise that the level-headed Moolman Pasio is planning her future to use the benefit of her expertise to help others in the sport.
She will take heart in the numerous messages of respect, support, friendship and best wishes that her hard years on the wheel have earned.
Good luck Ashleigh!
