Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio won the mountain stage at the Tour of Romandie on Saturday, 8 October 2022, bagging her first World Tour victory of her career.
Moolman-Pasio was victorious in the second stage of the inaugural Tour de Romandie Féminin race after she climbed the Thyon 2000 ahead of Annemeik van Vleuten.

It was a surprise win for the 36-year-old as she outclassed van Vleuten, with just 2.5km to go. She struck the final blow gaining a gap over van Vleuten to get her first win of 2022 following a difficult season.
The South African finished in 03:23:25 followed by van Vleuten in second place (+26) and Elisa Longo Borghini coming through in third place (+43). Moolman-Pasio also took control of the green leader’s jersey going into the final day.
Moolman-Pasio took to Facebook after her victory, saying: “Today was a special day. My mom gave me a bookmark many years ago when I woke up from a coma after a near fatal head injury with Winsten Churchill quote “never, never, never give up!
“It’s taken 13 years moving to a different continent, hard work, sacrifice, sweat, tears, dedication, disappointment, victories, crashes, injuries, lessons, not to mention a community of people behind me, an ever supportive family and most importantly a husband who has always believed in me and who has stood by my side every step of the way through it all, we never gave up! Today I finally won my first UCI Women’s World Tour race solo on the Queen stage at the Tour de Romandie.
