Momentum Proteas and senior Central Gauteng Lions Women’s cricketer, Ayabonga Khaka, says she is humbled after receiving the Presidential Award at the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, 27 May 2020.

The union’s players were honoured for their outstanding performances for the 2019/2020 season in a virtual ceremony, hosted by rising cricket presenter, Lesego Pooe, on their YouTube channel,

Khaka was recognised for her contributions after making a comeback from her knee injury against India last year to feature in the Momentum Proteas ICC T20 World Cup campaign in Australia this year.

Khaka went on to pick up four wickets in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, including 3/25 in South Africa’s first win over England in T20 World Cups. She also dismissed Alyssa Healy in the semi-final, which South Africa narrowly lost to eventual champions, Australia.

Speaking to gsport’s Celine Abrahams, Khaka says her hard work is beginning to pay off.

“To be recognized in that regard, it is a great recognition by CGL! Hard work and the support from my team and coaching staff has helped me a lot!” – Momentum Proteas and Central Gauteng Lions Women’s all-rounder, Ayabonga Khaka.
