by | Oct 22, 2021

The Banyana Banyana team are in high spirits ahead of their African Women Cup of Nations second leg against Mozambique on Tuesday, 26 October 2021.

The Desiree Ellis-led side were unstoppable in their first leg encounter played away at the Campo da ABB Stadium in Maputo on Wednesday afternoon, firing on all cylinders, winning 7-0.

Ellis was impressed with the performance, saying: “We knew that we needed to start well, be positive and get a good result to take the pressure off us going to South Africa.

“I thought we were so good on the ball and in that way we opened them up. We were solid at the back and created opportunities. We controlled every aspect of the game and the performance was very professional. We came here to do the job and we did the job.”

“We owed South Africa a performance and we want to thank them for always supporting us, I thought the players were magnificent,” concluded Ellis.

The return leg qualifier will take place at Dobsonville Stadium, while the AWCON tournament is set from July 2022 in Morocco.
