Bulelwa Mtshagi is the defending champion for the 41st Anniversary of the Peninsula Marathon in February next year, after finishing first in a time just under 2hrs and 53 minutes, for a 29th overall position.

You have an opportunity to be part of one of Cape Town’s signature running events in the new year, by joining more than 2000 athletes expected to take to the streets on Sunday, 17 February 2008 in the Puma Peninsula Marathon’s 41st anniversary.

The route for the Puma Peninsula Marathon has been in use since the very first race in 1964 and with one exception, the marathon has always been run in a southerly direction, from Green Point to Simon’s Town.

After being discontinued for four years from 1994-1997, the marathon made a comeback in 1998 and with the help of Puma, soon became the fastest marathon in Africa.

Athletes who are not quite ready to take on the full marathon can opt for a shorter distance by competing in either the Puma Half-Marathon, or a more relaxing Puma 8km Walk.

All finishers in all three categories will be eligible for lucky draw prizes from the sponsors. The Puma Peninsula Marathon is a qualifier for both the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon and the Comrades Marathon.
