All-rounder Eliz-Mari Marx’s blistering 115 off 66 balls – including eleven fours and six sixes – helped the Fidelity Titans seal a season-opening victory over the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers in the CSA Women’s One-Day Cup at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn, on Saturday 7 October.
After the match was reduced to 43 overs, a spectacular 275/4 team effort by the Titans sealed a convincing 160-run win featuring further stand-out contributions from Robyn Searle (86* off 125; 5 fours), and a four-wicket haul from Paulinah Mashishi (4/19) and three wickets from Gandhi Jafta (3/28) to dismiss the Garden Route Badgers for 115 in their chase.
In Division Two, the match between Eastern Province and Northern Cape Heat in Gqeberha, was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
In the other two matches of second-division cricket, recently-relegated Glencore North West Dragons opened their account with a nine-wicket triumph over Eastern Storm in Potchefstroom.
Eastern Storm was bowled out for 128, with a five-wicket haul from Dragon’s youngster Nthabiseng Nini (5/15). Opening batter for the Dragons, Diedre van Rensburg top-scored with a striking 62* off 99 balls (6 fours) as the home team reached their target 129/1 in 31.3 over
In Paarl, Boland secured a four-wicket victory over Eastern Cape Iinyathi in a low-scoring, 50-over affair after the visiting side based in East London was bowled out for 82 after 33.4 overs, with former SA U19 captain Oluhle Siyo picking up figures of four for 13.
Iinyathi’s Liyema Jubati’s made things difficult for Boland in their run chase with four wickets for 19 runs, but it was not enough as the home team got over the line with 30 overs to spare. Siyo top-scored with 34 off 32 balls.
The CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League continues Sunday, 8 October with T20 Challenge action across Division One and Division Two.
