This is a message to all schoolgirls over the age of nine – your school needs you! “Why on earth does my school need me?” you ask. “I go to school, I do my homework – what more am I supposed to do?”
The answer is – put on your walking (or running) shoes! The annual SPAR Women’s 10 km Challenge & 5km Run/Walk with Bokomo is taking place at Old Parktonians on October 15, and you can help your school win a computer, just by taking part in the Challenge.
The school with the highest entry will win a Mecer computer, printer and scanner, and the runner-up will win a computer, all courtesy of Mustek Electronics.
Now your school doesn’t have to win the race or anything like that – but it just needs to get as many pupils as possible to take part.
They don’t have to be superfit – if they don’t think they can run 10kms, they can walk – or they can even enter the 5km Fun Run (or Walk) instead.
But the best of all is that you will have a really great time while taking part in this race. The Challenge is one of the most fun ways of spending a Sunday morning – no-one is going to tell you to stop talking or laughing – in fact, the more you chatter and giggle, the more fun you will have.
What a cool way to see your mates – and there is some fabulous entertainment laid on by YFM. There will be stalls at the finish where you can buy food, and there are some really cool lucky prizes.
The first 5 000 to enter will also receive a free race t-shirt, and the first 6 000 to finish will get a goodie bag and a medal.
So get yourself and your mates into gear – round up those girls who normally hide away during PE lessons. Tell them what a great time they’re going to have and get as many girls from your school to enter as possible.
Just think how nice all the teachers will be to all of you when the school wins a new computer!
It’s important that all your school’s entry forms are handed in together, so that all the entries will be counted.
Entry forms are available from all SPAR, SUPERSPAR and KWIKSPAR stores, or online at www.spar.co.za. Only schools with more than 20 entries are eligible for the prize.
