gsport Content Lead, Celine Abrahams, has been honoured for her efforts to close the visibility gap in women’s sport.
Abrahams, who lead the efforts in the gsport Newsroom, received a Certificate of Appreciation from gsport Founder, Kass Naidoo, at the first ever in-person gathering of the gsport Whatsapp Communications Group (#gsportWCG)
The #gsportWCG was launched in September 2020 to encourage greater mainstream media coverage of women’s sport.
Reacting to her accolade, Abrahams said: “To be honest, I am still taking in my recognition and can’t stop looking at my certificate (laughs).
“This recognition means so much to me because it is validation that my hard work does not go unnoticed. Thank you to Kass and the gsport Team for always backing me and sharing words of encouragement that keeps me motivated to want to make a positive change for women’s sport in the media space.”
Her message to the youth: “I would like to encourage the youth to always listen to those who have been in the game. Sometimes when we are young, we think we know what’s best but it’s important that we learn from those who have come before us.
“Lastly, never be afraid! Take opportunities, you never know where your strengths may be.” – gsport Content Lead, Celine Abrahams
Naidoo lauded Abrahams, calling her one of South Africa’s leading youth role models: “Celine has been with gsport since 2019 and has risen through hard work, the willingness to learn and her loyalty to women’s sport. She is a great example to the youth of what it means to follow your dreams and back it up with great determination.
“Every day, she leads the gsport content team with incredible passion and women’s sport continues to elevate because of these daily efforts to increase media coverage.”
The gsport Newsroom, powered by Momentum in partnership with Telkom, produces daily content at gsport.co.za and amplifies gsport4girls across social media to raise the profile of women in sport and encourage greater corporate support.
