To kick start International Women’s Day 2023, gsport Content Lead Celine Abrahams hopped onto Etv’s The Morning Show to chat about our #gsportGlobal chapter, as we look to close the visibility gap in women’s sport between Africa and the rest of the world!
Speaking on the show, Abrahams highlighted how the #gsportGlobal chapter launched in 2019 by gsport Founder Kass Naidoo in Surat, India, aims to report on global women’s sport happenings.
“One way gsport is closing and plugging the gaps is by ensuring that we shine the spotlight on women’s sport globally.
“In 2019, we launched our #gsportGlobal chapter and since then, we have been building on the campaign to tell the story of women in sport. As media, we need to be intentional about women’s sport coverage to ensure that we give them the spotlight.”
When asked about development and investment in women’s sport, Abrahams said: “This is where us as the media play a huge part. If we tell the stories of women who are excelling in sport or giving coverage to the development side and community sport, we are making companies aware of what is taking place. In this way, we giving them reasons as to why they need to invest in women’s sport where they can see a return on their investment.”
