Celine Boutier earned the LPGA Drive On Championship title to become the all-time leading tour winner from France at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club west of Phoenix on Sunday, 26 March 2023.
With a birdie on the first extra hole, Boutier finished at 20 under par, breaking a significant record to become the most successful Frenchwoman ever.
She closed out a 54-hole lead for the first time in her career. She went up and down eight out of nine times on Sunday while shooting a final-round four-under 68, including on four consecutive holes to secure her first victory since the 2021 Shoprite LPGA Classic.
Her consistency on the greens also proved crucial.
The story of previous LPGA champions at Superstition Mountain is enhanced by Boutier’s success.
Lorena Ochoa, Annika Sorenstam, and Juli Inkster were three of the winners over the course of five years, when the tour was last held at the course for the Safeway International from 2004 to 2008.
Boutier is now ranked among the greatest players in the history of the tour.
