Gauteng’s Cheyna Tucker has added another trophy to her impressive collection, after winning the girls’ U19 Cape Blue Invitational Tournament championship in Cape Town during the past weekend.
The popular coastal squash tournament was held at the WPCC courts in Cape Town from 15-17 February 2008, in which the country’s top sixteen U16 and U19 Girls are invited annually to participate in one of the most prestigious Junior Squash Tournaments on the SA calendar.
Tucker played out a clean sweep in the tournament winning all of her matches, including taking the final 3-0 against an accomplished Lizane Vlok, while Robyn Baptiste (Northern Gauteng), Bronwen Reilly (Nothern Gauteng) and Danielle van Niekerk (Western Province) took 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively.
In the U16 Girls Section, young Alexandra Fuller (Western Province) beat Samantha Kleynhans (Gauteng) 3-1 to take the coveted first prize, and Michaela van Rensburg (Gauteng), Marcelle van Zyl (Border) and Alana Changfoot (Border) took 3rd, 4th and 5th places.
Squash is a growing sport in South Africa, and the high standard of play demonstrated by the players hold promise of good things for the South African game.
Key event sponsors include CapeBlue Properties, who awarded magnificent prizes to the top five players in each section, while Harrow’s exceptional quality equipment and clothing once again contribute to the high standard of competition.
