Coach Desiree Ellis Announces Banyana Banyana Squad to Face Brazil

The South African senior women’s team coach Desiree Ellis has named a 23-member squad that will lock horns with Brazil in two international friendly encounters.

The squad is dominated by the same players who won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco last month. With a few additions including rising talent, Asanda Hadebe, Lonathemba Mhlongo and Thubelihle Shamase.

As previously reported by the two nations will face off in the first in encounter at Orlando stadium on the 2nd of September at 18:00pm and three days later for the second encounter at a venue that is yet to be confirmed.

The two encounters serve as part of the preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be staged in Australia and New Zealand.

Speaking on SABC Sport where she made the squad announcement, coach Desiree Ellis emphasised the importance of playing top opposition.

“The preparations have started very well. We are very grateful to the South African Football Association (SAFA) and SASOL for getting us such quality opposition. You always want to test yourself against better opposition. We could not have asked for better opposition,” said Ellis.
