Day 8 of the Telkom Netball League Power Week 1 delivered another round of decisive performances, setting up a compelling final day as teams looked to close out the first power week on a high at the Durban University of Technology (Steve Biko Campus) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 1 May 2026.
With standings tightening and momentum building, Friday’s fixtures provided clarity at the top of both divisions while leaving just enough at stake heading into the final round.
Free State Crinums, the Division 1 leaders, continued their commanding run with a 56-36 victory over arch rivals Gauteng Jaguars. The encounter between the two proved another thrilling affair.
A strong first half saw Free State Crinums build a 29-14 lead, which they maintained through disciplined defence and efficient attacking play. With this result, Free State Crinums remained firmly in control heading into the final day. The experience of SPAR Proteas legend Karla Pretorius proved decisive and earned her Player of the Match accolade.
Golden Fireballs bounced back from three back-to-back losses with a composed performance to defeat Southern Stings 58-49, continuing their push up the Division 1 standings. After a balanced opening quarter, Golden Fireballs took control in the second, using quick ball movement through midcourt to create scoring opportunities and build a lead they would not relinquish.
Tarle Mathe proved clinical and instrumental in midcourt, earning Player of the Match honours for her stellar performance.
In Division 2, Western Cape Tornados maintained their unbeaten run with a dominant 65-33 victory over Eastern Cape Comets, further strengthening their position at the summit of the division standings.
Their balance between defensive pressure and attacking efficiency continues to set them apart as the competition heads into its final day.
Kingdom Queens, who played in front of their home crowd and enjoyed home ground advantage, delivered a strong 60-48 Division 2 victory over Mpumalanga Sunbirds, with a clinical second quarter laying the foundation for victory. The Mpumalanga side has struggled with unforced errors as the week has progressed.

Backed by a passionate crowd, Kingdom Queens continued to build momentum at a crucial stage of the competition.
Limpopo Baobabs recorded an impressive 64-41 Division 2 victory over Northern Cape Diamonds, showcasing their attacking strength and capitalising on opportunities throughout the match.
Free State Sonoblomo secured a 59-38 Division 2 win over Limpopo Lilies, boosting their confidence heading into the final day.
Malawi U21 played their penultimate Power Week 1 match with a commanding 73-29 Division 2 victory over North West Tshukudu. Their performances throughout the week have highlighted their growth and potential, leaving a strong impression on the competition.
The top three Division 1 teams have completed their Power Week 1 fixtures, and the Free State Crinums are untouchable at the top of the log standings after a dominant run in Division 1, and while the Jaguars are probably safe in their runners-up Division 1 position, the Fireballs will lose their third place position to the winner of the final Saturday fixture, between the North West Flames and the Southern Stings.
In Division 2, theWestern Cape Tornados will keep their leading position but will be intent on maintaining their unbeaten streak, with the Kingdom Queens and the Northern Cape Diamonds top of the chase as several teams aim to improve their final standings.
