Mignon du Preez scored a rapid and unbeaten 122 runs off 103 balls to lead Northerns women to a four-wicket victory over Gauteng in Pretoria, in the latest round of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Provincial League.
Gauteng posted 196/8 after batting first in the 50 overs competition, with Chené Bester, Nonkhululeko Thabede and Savanna Cordes the major contributors with scores of 43, 31 and 25 respectively. Du Preez totally dominated Northerns reply, demolishing the bowlers’ efforts to get her side a well-deserved win.
It was an exciting victory for them, following their 151-run win against Mpumalanga the day before. In that game Northerns were bowled out for 168, with S Swart taking 6/42, but her effort was overshadowed by Magdalene Mphahlele’s exceptional eight wickets for 11, to skittle Mpumalanga for 17.
In other matches, Lizelle Lee and Eliriesa Theunissen took four wickets each, to bowl Griqualand West out for 40 and give North West an eight-wicket win.
Limpopo suffered a double loss, losing by 185 runs against Easterns in Benoni and suffering a 32-run loss when they played Mpumalanga in White River.
The final fixtures for the year will take place this weekend.
