Egyptian table tennis sensation, Hana Goda, produced a top-drawer performance winning two medals at the ITTF World Youth Championship in Vila Nova de Gala in Portugal.
The 2021 African Championship silver medallist won gold and silver in the U-15 doubles and singles competitions, respectively.
Goda was paired with Japanese rising star, Miwa Harimoto, as the duo earned a bye in the round of 16 before outclassing Cheng Pu-Synuam and Ser Lian Qian 3-0.
Veronika Matiunina and Suhano Saini’s unbeaten run came to an end in the semi-finals losing 3-0 to Goda and Harimoto.
The duo went on to display absolute dominance claiming the top spot in the doubles final thumping Mia Griesel and Annteet Kaufmann from Germany (11-9, 11-5, 11-7)
“We are happy that we won this match, it was very easy because we were very well prepared for the match, so we are indeed happy,” said Goda.
After a brilliant performance in the doubles, Goda shifted focus to the singles event. She was one of the seven players that were granted a bye in the round of 32 and only began her campaign for a podium finish in the round of 16 when she faced Cheng Pu-Syuan who she defeated (11-9,11-9, 7-11, 6-11, 4-1, 11-3, 11-7) to win the game 4-3.
In the quarterfinals she faced Mia Griesel who she outclassed 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 with a 4-1 victory. On her way to the final, Goda won against India’s Suhana Sain 4-0. The World Youth Championship U-15 doubles title holders faced each other in the final of U-15 singles section.
The final had to be decided after six rounds as Miwa Harimoto defeated Goda 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-6, and 11-5 to claim the U-15 singles titles.
