Having faced setbacks in the initial stages of the 2013/2014 Eastern Local Football Association Division 1 League, JVW Girls Football Development managed to overcome the obstacles faced to secure a remarkable double.
Having won ten wins out of 14 matches, JVW Opens managed to finish Top of the Log with 31 points, narrowly fighting off Robertsham Ladies, who finished level on points, but a staggering goal difference of 47 giving JVW the edge.
The JVW u19 side managed to secure 3rd place, having won 7 of their 14 matches, and ending the season with 23 points, finishing above previous title contenders Luso Africa in what was a strong display of football.
Having secured the League Title, JVW Opens managed to fight off Robertsham once again in the Cup Semi-Finals. Facing tough opponents Bonaero FC Ladies in the Final, the stage was set for JVW Opens to fight for the Double.
Kicking off with an explosive start, JVW Opens managed to secure a good lead into half time. Bonaero FC, however, came back strong in the second half and gave the JVW defence a few hassles, having more shots on goals and chances created through the Mid field.
However, with JVW Founder Janine van Wyk leading the team, the JVW girls held on strongly, and came out Cup Winners with a 5-0 win over Bonaero FC.
Building off the match experience and confidence gained throughout the ELFA season, JVW Girls Football Development will now focus on the SASOL League for 2014, for the first time under the JVW Banner, and hope to continue building onto the already solid foundation of Women’s Football in South Africa.
