The 24-year-old showcased her exceptional skills in the Tour de France Femmes as she formed part of the breakaway group that held a lead throughout the race. As the peloton closed in during the closing stages, Norsgaard summoned her reserves, accelerating ahead of her fellow escapees in a sprint to victory with only seconds to spare.

“I’m lost for words really, it’s been a really difficult start of the year. I want to thank everyone around me and my family, my husband, the team for still believing in me after being out the whole spring. It’s the biggest victory ever. I’m so happy.” said Norsgaard.

Emma’s determined effort and strategic awareness during the critical moments of the race secured a well-deserved triumph. Her decisive push at just under 500m to go demonstrated her unwavering determination and ability to seize the moment.

In the final stretch, with the pack absorbing other breakaways, Norsgaard launched into a powerful sprint. Her determination paid off as she secured victory, finishing one second ahead of Charlotte Kool and race leader Lotte Kopecky. Kopecky’s visible frustration was evident as she beat her handlebars in another near miss for the win.

“I think I’m not a sprinter any more, I have to realise it and I might be fast, but I cannot keep up with the real sprinters so I took a chance today and reached for the stars and here we are” Emma said.

Emma Norsgaard’s impressive victory not only added to her triumphant 2021 Giro stage win but also highlighted her exceptional skills as a top cyclist in the world of competitive racing.
