The Northern Gauteng pairing of Farrah Fenner and Vivienne Doeg needed 95 minutes to subdue Pamela Dollenberg and Sharon Wakeford in the De Beers SA National Squash Doubles Championships women’s final, and won the title for the first time.
In the mixed doubles, Gauteng’s Paul Atkinson and Diana Argyle won in Johannesburg, when they accounted for Craig van der Wath and Farrah Fenner in five games.
Atkinson was also a winner in the men’s doubles final with partner Mike Tootill.
The mixed doubles final was a battle royal with van der Wath and Fenner trailing by two games to one, only to edge the fourth game 14-12 to level at two games all.
But Atkinson and Argyle dug deep, winning the decider 9-6 to capture the title for the first time.
The championships, in their eleventh year, were played for the first time on the doubles courts at the Johannesburg Country Club.
