Shandré Fritz starred with the bat, scoring 90 runs off 40 balls to take West Coast to victory against Highveld in the opening day final of the Cricket SA’s Women’s Super Fours T20 competition, at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Saturday, 27 April, 2013.
The two sides met after Alexis le Breton (71*) led West Coast to the final, after beating Central by 59 runs in their morning match.
Mignon du Preez scored an unbeaten 51 runs in the Highveld’s morning match against East Coast, to lead her side to a convincing seven-wicket victory to secure their fixture against West Coast later in the day.
In the evening final, West Coast won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a 175-run target for Highveld to win.
In reply, Highveld could only manage 97/7 in their 20 overs with Suné Luus top scoring with 38 to give West Coast a 80-run victory.
In the loser’s final, Dané van Niekerk scored 71 not out for East Coast to beat Central by nine wickets. Central batted first, making 115/7. East Coast reached their target in 17 overs.
