Amidst a sea of sports enthusiasts, media representatives, and cheering fans, South African wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane arrived back home at OR Tambo Airport on September 12th, 2023. 

The triumphant return followed her remarkable victory at the US Open Women’s Wheelchair Doubles Championship, solidifying her place as a double champion. The unparalleled achievements and ongoing recognition of Montjane have made her an inspiration for athletes and individuals worldwide.

Kgothatso Montjane’s journey to becoming a celebrated name in wheelchair tennis has been nothing short of extraordinary. This year alone, she and her partner secured the French Open Doubles title, and most recently, they clinched victory at the US Open. 

The wheelchairs on which they manoeuvre with incredible agility and skill become mere extensions of their bodies, as the duo defeated the formidable duo, Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen in the US Open Women’s Wheelchair Doubles final walkover.

As Montjane basks in the glory of her second Grand Slam title, she also finds herself in the spotlight as a double nominee at the esteemed gsport Awards 2023. Among numerous talented athletes, Montjane is a Finalist in the Brand SA Para Sport Star of the Year and Global Woman in Sport categories. Tonight, at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium, she eagerly awaits the verdict, hoping to add to her growing list of accolades.
