2013 SAFA Regional Women’s League Under 19 championships favourites Gauteng cruised into the finals, after hammering Mpumalanga 7-0 in the first semi-final, while KZN squeezed past Western Cape to secure the final spot against Gauteng, after they narrowly defeated Western Cape 1-0 at the Loubser Park Stadium on Monday, 12 August 2013.
In a match played in chilly conditions, a buoyant Gauteng side ran rings around a bemused Mpumalanga outfit at the Loubser Park Stadium in Kroonstad and now appear favourites to retain the title they won again last year.
Tournament defending champs Gauteng lived up to their elevated staus, dominating possession and attacking as a unit, and were full value of their compelling victory.
The girls from the city of gold opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Khodani Manyanya and added a second through Lorraine Makhoali to go into the second half with a healthy 2-0 cushion.
So dominant were Gauteng that had they not fluffed some easy chances, the scoreline could have been wider going into the break.
The champions did not sit back on their lead and came back from the break again, firing from all cylinders adding five more goals in the last 45 minutes.
The attacking trio of Khodani Manyanya, Lorriane Makhoali and Thandiwe Msibi were instrumental in most of Gauteng moves that resulted in goals as they literally put the Mpumalanga defence to sword.
Thandiwe Msibi and Katlego Mabuza scored two late goals in the referee’s optional time as Gauteng left the Mpumalanga’s defence in tatters.
In a tight contest between the two coastal provinces on Monday afternoon, a single goal was enough to separate the two giants but considering the overall exchanges, a victory for KZN was a fair result.
The goal that made all the difference arrived on the 22nd minute, and although Western Cape tried hard to come back into the match, the scoreline was to remain the same.
It was the same scenario in the second half in which Western Cape tried all tricks to find the equaliser but found the KZN girls in an uncompromising mood.
KwaZulu Natal will play Gauteng in the final of the SAFA Regional Women’s Under 19 championship after they narrowly defeated Western Cape 1-0 in the second semi-final clash at the Loubser Park Stadium on Monday, 12 August 2013.
