Gauteng Lions continue their assault against the veteran squad of Western Province A in the second round of the Pick ‘n Pay Inter-Provincial at Germiston Golf Club by 8 points to 1.

Wendy Warrington scored a hole-in-one to halve the match against Tsebo Betty Mokoena on the 18th, the only point in WP A bag the whole afternoon.

This is Warrington’s first ever ace in 35 years of her competitive golf career.

Kelli Shean was beaten on the short par 3, 18th hole when Ashleigh Simon holed a 20 ft downhill putt.

Shean had been 1 up until the 13th hole until Simon squared the match. The game remained that way until the 18th hole when Simon clinched the hole to win 1up.

North West didn’t give Southern Cape Flyers a chance in the morning foursomes matches. The afternoon singles only saw  Kraljevic lose to de Reuck 3/2 and Klotz lost to Winter 3/2.

The star of the North West Bertine Strauss continued her winning streak by beating Monique Smit 4/3. Strauss beat Shean in the first round played yesterday. North West won by 6½ to 2½.

Gauteng North A took the Gauteng Cats and shook them by their tails. They cleaned up in the foursomes and only lost two of their matches to the Cats in the singles, winning by 7 to 2.

KwaZulu-Natal are really struggling this year and although they lost by one match to Boland A in the foursomes, the afternoon matches saw Boland A halve two games and lose one to beat KzN by one point – 5 to 4.

In the C Division, Mpumalanga beat Eastern Cape by one point. Free State & NC beat WP B by 2 points.

In the D Division, Gauteng North B beat Limpopo by two points – 4 to 2. Boland B beat Border by one point – 3.5 to 2.5.

The qualifying round divided the provincial teams into four divisions, namely A, B, C and D. The winners in each division play round robin matches of foursomes and singles, each team competes within their qualified division at Germiston Golf Club.
