by | Jul 31, 2006

South African cricket commentator and sports anchor, Kass Naidoo, who
recently quit her popular radio sports show, Gameplan, on SAfm,
thas thrown her weight behind women in sport.

Kass, who won Radio Presenter of the year at the SAB Sports
Journalists of the year awards earlier this year, is proud to announce
the launch of gsport…for Girls! – an initiative which aims to showcase
outstanding women in sport and to promote sport among young girls.

The initiative has kicked off with the launch of a free internet
magazine www.gsport.co.za, South Africa’s first sports website
dedicated solely to women, which goes live at midnight, July 31.

“I am so excited I can finally share this good news with South
Africa. gsport has been nearly a year in the making. I’m hoping through
the launch of the website, we start bringing awareness to the successes
of women in sport.

The site will feature the latest women’s sports news, profiles, expert
opinions and tips on how to reach our full potential through sport.

gsport will also offer free media advice and PR to our professional
sportswomen and work hand in hand with corporate South Africa to secure
financial backing for women’s sport.

“The talent is there, we just have to support them. Ahead of 2010,
it’s important that all South Africans feel like they’re part of this
amazing journey. Women in sport have reason to celebrate on so many
levels, on-field, administration, coaching, media, marketing, PR. It’s
time to acknowledge the great strides we have made in sport and in
turn, promote a healthier lifestyle.”

To celebrate the launch of gsport, the legendary Penny Heyns has been chosen as the first inductee in the gsport hall of fame.

Kass, was is celebrating her 10th year in the media, has just
renewed her television contract with SABC Sport and is also looking
forward to renewing her partnership with her cricket broadcasting
colleagues ahead of another exciting cricket season.

South Africa face India and Pakistan at home and then travel to the Caribbean for the ICC World Cup early next year.
