2019 Momentum gsport Awards host and current newsreader on the Touchdown with Tbo Touch show on Metro FM, Pearl Shongwe, has sadly passed away.

The news, which was shared by Sunday World on Tuesday, 8 November 2022, reported that Shongwe was found unresponsive in her home in Polofields north of Johannesburg earlier in the afternoon.

Shongwe, aged 35, was a leading television and radio personality who made her mark within the media space and inspired many young women to venture into the industry.

In 2010, Shongwe’s career kicked off when she worked for youth radio station, YFM as an entertainment reporter.

In 2011, she showed her versatility when she was a Miss Soweto finalist. She also made her mark at SABC Sport as a reporter and voice over artist to their flagship programmes, including a children sport show, ‘Sports Buzz’.

Shongwe was also part of the gsport family as she participated as a Voice Over Artist for the 2018 gsport Awards. The following year, Shongwe was elevated as she hosted the 2019 Momentum gsport Awards, where she dazzled the crowd and left us all with great memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.
