As the national women’s cricket team wrapped up a three-day camp at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria on Sunday, gsport … for Girls! Editor Kass Naidoo visited the provisional team to speak to the girls about the importance of being media-aware.
The team wrapped up a three-day camp in preparation for their tough European tour in three months time.
It’s a rare overseas tour for the national team, which continues its struggle to find sponsors for the women’s game.
Kass told the team: “One of the best ways to attract sponsors is to improve your image, and to become more media savvy.
“Its not about competing for the same amount of attention as the men, but about working hard to be the best possible ambassador for cricket.
“You have to be able to show prospective sponsors that your brand and the brand of women’s cricket are worth investing in.”
National Captain Cri-Zelda Britz thanked Kass for taking time to visit the team, and writing to the gsport website, vice-captain Johmari Logtenberg said: “It makes our jobs so much easier if you know there are people out there who believe in us. Thanks for the tips on how to handle the media.”
