Forest Green Rovers who play in the League Two of the Premier League have made a historic announcement appointing Hannah Dingley as their new caretaker coach, making her the first woman to manage a professional men’s team in England.
Her appointment follows the sacking of Duncan Ferguson, who was in charge for 6 months.
“I’m really excited for this next step of my career,” Dingley said. “Pre-season has just begun and the full season kicks off very soon. It’s an exciting time in football. I am grateful for the opportunity to step up and lead such a progressive and forward-thinking club.”
Interestingly Dingley, who’s always been passionate about sport and football to be specific, played in her school’s mixed football team however, she was banned from playing in high school because she was a girl.
Fast forward to today, Dingley has scored a position as head coach is a temporary one as the club looks to find a full-time solution.
Forest Green chairman Dale Vince says: “Hannah was the natural choice for us to be first team interim Head Coach – she’s done a fantastic job leading our Academy and is well aligned with the values of the club.”
