Global cricket star, Shabnim Ismail, was the biggest women’s cricket winner at the CSA Awards on Monday, 31 May, after a stellar year of achievements for the Momentum Proteas.
The fiery fast bowler was crowned SA Women’s Cricketer of the Year, Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year and SA Women Players’ Player of the Year.
Having previously won SA Women’s Cricketer of the Year in 2015, Ismail is only the third player to have earned the prize multiple times, after Marizanne Kapp (2013 and 2014) and Dané van Niekerk (2016, 2018, 2019).
Ismail shared her joy of winning on Instagram: “This evening I was fortunate enough to receive a few end of the season accolades which I am very much grateful for.
“This was not an easy season for many of us, but we soldiered on,” she added. “A big thank you to my teammates and support from loved ones. Relishing the prospect of getting started for the new 2021/22 season!”
Also on the night, teammate Lizelle Lee picked up the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year accolade.
