Reigning Olympic champion, Peres Jepchirchir, landed her third major crown in less than a year as she won the Boston Marathon on Monday, 18 March 2022.
The Kenyan long-distance runner had to fight off a spirited challenge with Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia to emerge as the winner in 2:21:01, just four seconds ahead of Yeshaneh.

Jepchirchir who has won at the Tokyo Olympics, New York Marathon and now the Boston Marathon, becomes the first athlete, male or female, to win all three competitions in a year.
Another Kenyan, Mary Wacera Ngugi, settled for a bronze medal in 2:21:32.
Switzerland’s Manuela Schär dominated the wheelchair race claiming gold in 1:41:08, Susannah Scaroni of United States won silver medal in 1:46:20, while Madison de Rozario rounded up the top three in 1:52:48.
