South Africa’s final match at the Samsung Women’s Hockey World Cup followed the trend our team has suffered in this tournament, with a 28-minute goal by India’s Captain Jyoti Sonita Kulu, which placed India in 11th position, and South Africa taking the final 12th spot.
News reports suggested uninspiring play from both teams in the second half, with neither of the teams showing much ball control, with a boring match heralding the end of a disappointing tournament for coach Jenny King and her charges.
Much has been said and written about the team not having experienced sufficient international game-time, and the loss of several high-class players has not been offset by incoming players rising to the challenge.
