Gauteng Jaguars edged Kingdom Stars to wrap up day two of the fifth leg of Telkom Netball League action on Saturday, 11 June 2022.

It wasn’t a successful weekend for the Stars who capitulated to a 46-54 defeat soon after losing to the Crinums on Friday.

Only four goals separated both teams after a fierce first half but at the end it was the burst of goals from Jaguars shooters, Alice Kennon and Kamogelo Maseko that helped the defending champions to edge out the KZN side after boasting a ninety-goal percentage from sixty one attempts.

In division two Mpumalanga Sunbirds took on Eastern Cape Comets, where the Sunbirds brought some sunshine in the arena following their 46-29 victory.

Not all is lost for the Comets who still managed to keep their fourth position on the log but it will be all to play for in their last round robin game against the unbeaten Aloes in the Eastern Cape derby next week.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom Queens gave their coach, Precious Mthembu a strong start that she asked for but were unable to keep the momentum throughout which steered them to a narrow 36-43 defeat.

The Queens were hoping to avenge themselves after losing by one when the two sides met last month but despite the failed attempt, Precious was proud of what she saw on court.

”I can definitely say that the girls put up a good fight today. I think the energy and the spirit that they took from last weeks’ win, they brought it through today. The Baobabs are a team that is doing exceptionally well in the B section and the performance that we did today, was good but we really needed the two points to try and move up the log,” said Mthembu.
