National men’s rugby coach, Jake White has paid tribute to the Springbok women’s rugby squad on the eve of their departure to Canada for the 2006 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
White along with a number of the men’s Springbok squad attended a cocktail function in Pretoria to bid farewell to our girls.
Speaking to gsport, White said: We are 100 percent behind the women’s Springbok squad as they depart for Edmonton. As mentioned by the Minister’s spokesperson, we are a rainbow nation, on course to realize all talent and opportunity in South Africa."
The women, led by their inspirational captain, Nomsebenzi Tsotsobe, were in great spirits, as they sang the national anthem and broke out into a victory dance.
Tstotsobe told gsport that she is really proud of her team and the way they have gelled over the past few months.
“We’re rated 11th out of 12 teams, so we know it will be a challenge. But, we are up for it, and its great to get this kind of support, especially from John Smit and his team.”
The Springbok women face heavyweights Australia in their opening world cup match in Edmonton on August 31.
