Great Britain’s European Indoor Championships team captain, Jazmin Sawyers, produced the performance of her life in the women’s long jump, as she surpassed seven metres for the first time in her career in Istanbul on Sunday, 5 March 2023.

Speaking to BBC after her stellar performance, Sawyers said: “I’ve never won anything,” as this was her first gold in 14 major championships.
“I’m still in shock. I feel like the seven-metre jump has been in me for so long. I have been waiting for this seven metres to come out forever. It’s been so many years that, for a bit, you start to go: ‘Is it gonna come?’”
The 28-year-old surpassed her previous personal best of 6.90, to set up a world-leading jump record so far in 2023.
