Chess player, Jesse February, continues to fly the South African flag high recently winning the 2021 African Individual Chess Championship in Malawi.
February beat Ayah Moaataz by seven points in the final and was also awarded the prestigious Woman Grand Master (WGM) title.

Her gold medal win has earned her a spot to participate at the FIDE World Chess Championship which will be held in Dubai from 24 November – 16 December 2021. The top four placed chess players will then get a chance to participate at the World Championships.
In 2015, the Gqeberha-born earned the Woman FIDE Master title and a year later, she scooped the Woman International Master accolade.
The 24-year-old will be joined by Lina Nassr from Algeria, Ayah Moaataz from Egypt and Lorita Mwango from Zambia at the World Chess Championships.
