Johannesburg and Tshwane could not have asked for a better start than what they achieved on the first day of the Spar National Netball Championships on Monday 08 August 2022, at the Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds at University of North West in Potchefstroom.
Johannesburg had a fire-cracker start beating Buffalo City and Manguang in their opening games.
Coach Elsie Jordaan said it was very positive start from her young team, which is a combination of the Golden Fireballs, who won the Telkom Netball League and young untried players.
“We have young players that make mistakes. It is a work in progress but I am reasonably happy with the way things are going.”
Tshwane whom have dominated netball in recent years, picked up where they left off in 2020 by defeating the host team Dr Kenneth Kaunda in their opening game and Cape Winelands in their second game of the day.
Coach Jenny van Dyk said it was a close win but she will take it: “It is a new team and so I need to work on a number of things. We will just have to take it game by game and see how we get on. I think there are a lot of competitive teams in this tournament.”
