23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams has announced her plans to evolve away from tennis to focus on other things that are important to her.
Williams told Vogue magazine that she is evolving away from the sport in which she is considered one of the greatest of all time.
The 40-year-old Williams has been chasing her 24th title which will draw her even with Margaret Court on the all-time leaderboard.
“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.” Williams told Vogue magazine.
Williams further stated that she will try to win the US Open scheduled to take place from the 29th of August to 11 September 2022 before she moves away from the playing court.
