South African aerial pole athlete Kaitlin Rawson is ranked world No.1in pole and aerial sport, 6 years after her spinal injury.
Rawson took up pole and aerial sport as a way of bonding with her mother but in September 2016, disaster struck. During practice she lost her grip and fell, injuring her neck and spine.
After spending a week in intensive care, she had to undergo intensive rehabilitation for three months, to relearn how to walk again.
In 2021, she was back competing again in a virtual competition, where she won first place in the World Pole and Aerial Sports Championships.
This year, the World Pole and Aerial Sports Championships will take place in October in Lausanne, Switzerland. Rawson will be hoping to make her mark at the event as she continues to fly South Africa’s flag across the globe.
