South Africa’s Kira Ribbink won gold in the mixed team relay in her debut USA Collegiate Club National Championship appearance for Queens University of Charlotte.

Ribbink, Tristen Jones, Milan Tomlin and Franca Henseleit completed a super sprint triathlon including a 250m swim, 5km bike and 1.2k run in a combined time of 1:08:46 to secure the gold medal.
The US Naval Academy finished second in 1:10:36, while the University of Colorado settled for bronze in 1:12:09.
Chatting to gsport, Ribbink said: “This was my first attempt in a mixed team relay despite making a few mistakes the race was interesting. The whole team put up a brave fight and claimed the gold medal which gave us a lead in points against our opponents.
“My teammates and Coach Sonni Dyer were by my side and guiding me through the race. I learnt a whole lot from the experience and therefore was not disappointed.
Ribbink placed 6th out of +/-65 women: “It was a very individual race because there were such big gaps between people. The icy swim was around 55•F hence it was freezing especially for someone like me from a warm all year round country. My body did not handle that cold well at all. The course was super hilly, probably the hardest race I have ever done,” she concluded.
