It was a dominant display by UFS Kovsies and NMMU Madibaz on Monday, leading the Varisty Netball Round 3 action in their respective matches.
The Port Elizabeth side made good use of their home ground advantage when they beat VUT 70-29 to bag their second consecutive win with a bonus point. VUT are still winless with three defeats in a row.
There was no containing the powerful NMMU attack in the first quarter as the home side racked up the points to take a commanding lead.
UFS Kovsies recorded their third straight win in Varsity Netball when they thrashed UCT 91-19 in Bloemfontein on Monday.
It was one-way traffic from the first whistle with the home side racking up the bonus point midway through the third quarter. Kovsies got off to a flying start and were 6-0 up after the first five minutes.
Kovsies captain Karla Mostert and Maryke Coetzee also made UCT work for very opportunity they had. UCT struggled to capitalise on their minimal opportunities throughout the quarter with Kovsies continuing to add to their tally with ease.
The Cape side eventually got on the board, but by the end of the quarter the score was 20-3 in favour of the home side.
UP-Tuks maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a 58-29 bonus point victory over UJ in Potchefstroom. The Pretoria ladies have now bagged three consecutive bonus point victories to keep their flawless record but it was certainly a tough start to this encounter for them.
UP-Tuks raced to a 5-2 lead after the opening seven minutes and both teams were only able to add a point each at the 10 minute mark. The Pretoria ladies were struggling in the attacking circle as they missed numerous chances but found their range towards the end of the opening quarter to hold an 11-5 lead at the break.
Both sides managed to add four points each in the opening five minutes of the second quarter before Tuks managed to increase their lead nine points with five minutes remaining in the quarter.
The match between NWU-Pukke and Maties was forced to be abandoned 10 minutes into the third quarter with Pukke holding a slender 34-32 lead. Confirmation of a rematch will be made on Tuesday, 15 September, with Saturday, 19 September being looked at as a possible date.
The match got off to a fast start as both sides looked to assert themselves on their opponents, as the home side led 3-2 after the opening five minutes. There was no separating the sides at the end of the quarter as they went into the break locked at 10-10.
Pukke edged ahead by the slightest of margins after five minutes in the second quarter but Maties managed to turn the tables to take a 17-16 lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter.
