Leaders Extend Dusi Advantage

Team Alexa
Lombard and Abbey Miedema extended their lead on the women’s by five minutes
over the second-placed K2 partnership of Laura Thompson and Robyn Kime, to stay
in control of the 2008 Hansa Powerade Dusi, a final stage down to the finish in
Durban beckoning victory, disaster aside.

The prize-giving
ceremony awaits downstream at Blue Lagoon at 3pm on Saturday, after an 7am
start from the Inanda Dam, but the top paddlers will expect to arrive well
before then, in time for a cool-down and welcome congratulations for another
marathon event.

The contestants
will have enjoyed an hour later departure time to catch an extra few minutes
sleep after two days’ worth of efforts amid extreme heat and humidity, but will
be aware of the energy-sapping exertion required at the portage at Bruma Road, an advantage
to strong runners.
