In a world where the landscape of marketing is constantly evolving, few stand out as both visionaries and doers. Natalie Druion is one such figure. Best described as a Conversationalist & Content Maverick, Natalie is redefining the role of content leadership in South Africa. As the Head of Digital Content and PR at Momentum Group—a role that is still relatively new in executive circles—Natalie brings a unique blend of innovative thinking, servant leadership, and a youthful spirit that has not only propelled her career but also inspired those around her.

A Journey Rooted in Passion

Druion’s content journey began when, during her post graduate studies at the University of Johannesburg, she started a food blog. What started as an academic requirement soon became a creative outlet that opened doors to the broader world of marketing and content creation. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a full-fledged career as she found herself at the strategic helm of some of South Africa’s most well-known brands.

Raised in an entrepreneurial family, Druion credits her upbringing for instilling in her a deep understanding of business and leadership. For her, the role of a leader is not to score the goals but to set up the plays, enabling her team to shine and succeed.

Druion’s career is marked by numerous professional achievements, each demonstrating her ability to navigate the complexities of modern marketing with grace and strategic acumen. She has been fortunate to work on some of South Africa’s most loved brand across the private and public sector such as the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) Local Elections campaign, Nando’s South Africa and Red Bull South Africa. These successes were not just about boosting sales or market share; they were about creating lasting connections with audiences, a philosophy she continues to carry into her role at Momentum Group.

Championing Women’s Empowerment: Momentum gsport Awards

As part of Momentum’s #SheOwnsHerSuccess campaign, they sponsor the impactful gsport Awards, a groundbreaking initiative designed to celebrate and elevate the successes of women in sports. The #SheOwnsHerSuccess campaign empowers women with tools and advice to achieve financial success. It celebrates women who follow their journey with determination, despite setbacks. Regardless of their backgrounds, these women turn challenges into opportunities, driving their passions and entrepreneurial pursuits with the aim of realising their full potential.

The partnership with gsport, now in its sixth year, is a continued commitment from Momentum to recognise and empower female athletes. Globally, sports sponsorship has been sized at $44.9 billion per annum; women make up 40% of all participants, yet only receive 4% of sports coverage – not enough to make their sports commercially viable. Momentum’s support for women is longstanding and multifaceted; it includes an 11-year sponsorship of the SA women’s cricket team and its Women Who Make Moves in Sports Summit, now in its second year.

Druion is of the opinion that through the types of content created around female athletes – they too have the potential to have their profiles raised and become household names and that will be able to bring them better sponsorship deals. While statistics suggest it could take 136 years to close the gender pay gap, Druion sees this as a call to action rather than a reason for despair.

People and conversations are at the heart of Druion’s work. She believes in the power of dialogue to shift narratives and enable the success of those around her. The gsport Awards are not just a professional achievement but a personal mission for Natalie—a tangible example of how belief in people can change the world.

Navigating the Future of Marketing: Industry Insights

As the marketing industry continues to evolve, particularly with the rapid inclusion of AI and other advanced technologies, Druion remains a staunch advocate for maintaining the human element in marketing strategies. She believes that in an age where data and automation are becoming increasingly prevalent, the most successful marketing strategies are those that keep the person at the centre.

Natalie’s inspiration comes not only from the industry and its challenges but also from the people around her. She is deeply inspired by her team at Momentum Group, whom she describes as dynamic, brilliant, and committed. Their energy and creativity fuel her own passion for innovation and leadership. She is also fortunate to be mentored by Nontokozo Madonsela, whose guidance and support have been invaluable in helping Natalie navigate her role at Momentum.

Looking Ahead: Future Goals

While Druion is thriving in her role at Momentum Group, she is also looking toward the future with a clear vision. She is grateful for the opportunity to touch lives on a broad scale through the work she does at Momentum. She is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and is committed to continuing her journey as a leader who not only drives business success but also makes a positive impact on society. As she continues to push the boundaries of marketing and leadership, there is no doubt that Druion will remain a formidable force in the industry for years to come.
