Momentum kicked off its sixth edition of its exciting #SheOwnsHerSuccess campaign and Women’s Month in high gear!
This included the announcement of a ground-breaking partnership with acclaimed men’s magazine GQ; as well as the return of its Women Who Make Moves in Sports Summit featuring renowned Harvard Professor Prof Anita Elberse.
On August 6th Momentum, along with GQ Editor-in-Chief Molife Kumona unveiled a ground-breaking cover featuring a host of trailblazers and extraordinary women that embody this year’s campaign theme “My Success By Design”. This is the first time that GQ has ever had a cover featuring so many women during the month of August.
The cover features: Niquita Bento, a well-known fashion photographer and creative director, songstress Elaine whose debut single “I’m the One” took the world by storm and singer and actress Rosemary Zimu. The last two women on the cover are actress Khosi Ngema and sprinter and athlete Alyssa Conley.
“We are so proud to have collaborated on this issue takeover with GQ,” remarked Thandi Smith, Marketing Manager at Momentum. “We have a firm belief in allyship and by taking these conversations to a male audience and including them – we make sure we push for meaningful society and get support for women from all quarters of society. Our campaign highlights the importance of enabling women to achieve their full potential, both personally and professionally – and that cannot be done in isolation.”
Momentum also successfully hosted its second annual Women Who Make Moves in Sports Summit. The summit featured a stellar lineup of speakers, including sports social media strategist Nqobile Ndlovu and Duma Collective’s Sibu Mabena. Undoubtedly, the case studies presented by Prof Anita Elberse were the highlight of the day as the who’s who in female sports delved deeper into David Beckham and Francis Ngannou.
Mabena, a social media branding specialist, gave the athletes advice on how to own their brands and make their brands work for them.
“You are, and will never be everybody’s cup of tea, and that’s okay,” said Mabena. “It is important though to know who your brand appeals to, who would consume your content; and aligning yourself with that specific target market as opposed to trying to please everybody.”
Nyasha Zimusha, former Miss Africa USA, international DEI Futurist and executive coach, who was also a speaker, shared insights on networking and how to do it effectively.
Sports lawyer and FIFA agent, Karabo Mathang-Tshabuse, warned the athletes on staying vigilant when signing contracts whether it be with clubs or other stakeholders and some of the pitfalls to watch out for.
Momentum has more activities coming up with two workshops with various speakers providing masterclasses on different topics, one of which is famed managing director of the F1 academy Susie Wolff.
