South African international, Lefébre Rademan’s journey continues in the Vitality Netball Super League in the United Kingdom, after she signed with Worcester-based Severn Stars.
Rademan was selected as a reserve in the Spar Proteas squad that secured a 6th place finish at the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town.
The Proteas goal attack joins compatriot Sigi Burger in the Stars side that finished 6th last season and will be hoping that the addition of the experienced South African will boost their attack.
Head Coach Jo Trip said ahead of the new season: “What a line up we have for the coming season! I am super excited (and a little overwhelmed) to be leading this incredible group of athletes this season. The goal is to continue taking Severn Stars to new heights and I believe we have the team to do so! Looking forward to what’s to come!”
An ACL injury during the Proteas 54-48 loss to Uganda at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games saw Rademan ruled out of the 2023 VNSL after recommitting to the Celtic Dragons.
The Riversdale native in the Western Cape has previously played for London Pulse in the NSL and Free State Crinums in the Telkom Netball League.
With the signing window open, let’s check what the NSL website says about who clubs can sign:
Clubs can sign a maximum of 15 players during the signing window. Following the conclusion of the 2023 season, teams could start approaching players from other clubs who are currently out of contract; they were able to engage in negotiations with their existing contracted players before the end of the season.
Squads are made up of mainly UK athletes but each side is allowed to register two non-UK players. However, these players cannot play in the same area of the court at the same time in any game (i.e. GS and GA, C, WA and WD, GD and GK).
Salary cap rules now see clubs having to submit 10 of their registered players who fit within the league’s salary cap rules. They can therefore register two registered players who sit outside of the salary cap.
All players must be at least 16 years old on the closing date of player registrations.
