DP World Lions claimed a 7-wicket victory in the #JukskeiDerby against Fidelity Titans in the Pro Domestic Women’s T20 Challenge at DP World Wanderers, on Sunday 15 October.
Titans won the toss and elected to bat on the day. Eliz-Mari Marx dealt in boundaries as she scored 45 (30) hitting five fours and two sixes, as the Titans set a total of 140/8 in their innings. Gandi Jafta 25 (29) and Amogelang Maphangula 24 (23) supported Marx with the bat.
Samantha Schutte was the star of Lions bowling attack with figures of 3/27, and she was supported by fellow team mates and SA U19 stars, Refilwe Moncho 2/21, Jenna Evans 2/26 and Madison Landsman 1/21, who together restricted on the visitors’ hopes for a greater innings total.
In reply, the Lions made quick work in the run chase as Sunette Viljoen-Louw played a match-winning innings of 51 (36) with five fours and two sixes. Palesa Mapoo contributed with 32 (21) five fours and Kirstie Thomson was unbeaten on 40*(26) cracking 8 fours to all corners of the stadium, as the hosts reached the target of 143/3 with 3-overs to spare and claim the double over the #DaisyLadies.
Western Province beat Free State at Newlands
In Cape Town, Western Province fought hard to secured a narrow five-run win against Recon Tactical Free State at Newlands.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first. Kelsey Adams, played an unbeaten innings of 48* (48) with three fours and one maximum, as she steered her team to a competitive total of 117/7 in their 20-overs. Elandri Janse van Rensburg took 3/19 as her team restricted the home side.
Western Province fought hard and with a disciplined bowling attack, they secured a 5-run victory over the Free State. Mignon van der Merwe hit eight fours in her innings of 46 (32) for Free State. Yolandi Potgieter also contributed with 27 (31) but it was not enough on the day.
In the only Division 2 match of the day, KZN Inland secured a double weekend victory over Mpumalanga Rhinos in White River.
The Tuskers won the toss and put the hosts in to bat. Rhinos struggled against the bowling attack of the Inland team as they managed to post 80/5 in their innings. Sveva Moore scored 28 (62) with two fours for the Rhinos.
In response Megan Wessels played an unbeaten innings of 36 (45) that steer the Tuskers to a six-wicket victory, with 4 overs to spare.
