South Africa’s Cheyna Tucker and Alexandra Fuller were among the victims with upsets the order of play, at the Northerns Open Squash Championships at the Pretoria Country Club on Tuesday.
In the women’s first rounds 5th-seed Tucker, 7th-seed Fuller and 8th-seed Julia Le Coq (France) were unceremoniously bundled out, while second-seed Lisa Aitken (England) survived a 55-minute 5-game tussle before advancing to the quarterfinals.
Lauren Siddall repeated her straight game win over Tucker in the Eastern Province Open, again winning in straight games in 30 minutes.
Torky (Egypt) also inflicted a straight game win over UCT student Fuller, while Sterne – the recently-crowned Masters 35 -39 champ, took control after dropping the first game 11-13 to 8th seeded Julia Lecoq (France), edging through 11-9 11-9 11-7.
