2012 gsport Up and Coming Athlete of the Year, Thato Makhafola, has won the 800m at the Zone VI U20 Junior Games in Lusaka, Zambia, putting her World Junior Championships fall behind her, to finish in a winning time of 2:11.35.
Makjafola was joined in track medals by Sunel Jacobs, University of Johannesburg student adding the 200m silver to her 100m gold in a time of 24.15, with Phillipa van der Merwe winning bronze in 24.50.
In the women’s Shot Put, Lezaan Jordaan – a finalist at the World Junior Championships, added the gold medal to her already impressive CV, while Ischke Senekal maximised Team SA’s prospects by bagging the silver medal.
