gsport, the leading advocate for women’s sport in South Africa, is proud to announce the appointment of Mama Joy Chauke as the ambassador for The Year of Women’s Sport. Mama Joy’s incredible support and passion for women’s sport have earned her the prestigious role of representing gsport at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, while advocating for increased global support for women’s sport.
Upon her departure from South Africa this week, Mama Joy expressed her elation, saying, “I am so happy. I deserve it. To be a gsport ambassador, it’s more like I have won the Lotto. I am so excited! Thanks to Kass Naidoo, the founder of gsport, for believing in me.”
Kass Naidoo, the founder of gsport, praised Mama Joy’s unwavering commitment to women’s sport, stating, “Mama Joy was the first-ever Supporter of the Year winner at the Momentum gsport Awards in 2015, and since then, the support for women’s sport has soared. As a two-time gsport award winner, Mama Joy Chauke is the perfect choice to lead the #GoGirls campaign, supporting Banyana Banyana. We are thrilled to have her represent gsport on the global stage.”
The appointment of Mama Joy as the ambassador for The Year of Women’s Sport aligns perfectly with the ongoing Momentum gsport Awards, with nominations for #gsport18 open until 9 August. gsport sees Mama Joy as a pivotal voice in encouraging greater public participation in the nominations process, recognizing the #PowerOfRecognition, and unearthing icons and role models for the next generation of athletes.
