Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Football Club has laid the foundation as one of the most formidable females clubs on the African Continent. They became the IFFHS best women’s club in Africa of the year, for second consecutive year according to International Federation of Football History Statistics rankings that were released on 9 January, 2024.
The ranking is based on the performance of clubs in international and national tournaments within the last 12 months. Sundown Ladies have confidently defended their CAF Women’s Champions League and Hollywoodbets Super League Titles in 2023, making them on the most successful team on the African continent.
Sporting Casablanca and AS FAR club teams that hail from Morocco completed the podium finish for the top clubs in Africa.
University of the Western Cape, Janine van Wyk FC and TS Galaxy Queens complete Top 10 in the IFFHS Continental Club rankings for 2023, making SAFA Women’s League one of the most successful on the continent.
South African Football Association Women’s League is ranked No.16 on the IFFHS Women’s League World rankings, based on the strongest leagues in the confederation. SAFA Women’s League is ranked three spots higher than fellow continental opponent Morocco, who is ranked No.19.
Spain remains in top spot, making UEFA the most successful confederation in the world, with a total of thirteen countries featuring in the top twenty.
