Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies took control of the top of the 2024 season of the Hollywoodbets Super League log on goal difference after their 5-3 away win against TS Galaxy Queens in their 1pm kickoff at the UJ Soweto Stadium on Saturday 9 March, 2024.

Once Regina Mogolola netted in the second minute, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies just didn’t stop scoring despite the best efforts of home team TS Galaxy Queens, with Mamello Makhabane levelling scores in the 8th minute and the matches’ late double scores of Lesego Nkoane (83’) and Busisiwe Ndimeni (90’).

The visitor’s unquenched hunger for goals included the double conversion for Nthabiseng Majiya (24’, 65’) and also featured Boitumelo Rabale (59’) and Chuene Morifi (63’), a sum total sufficient to elevate Sundowns to the top of the log.

Equal on points but one goal separating them from the top slot are the University of Johannesburg FC now with five goals in their two in two wins of the 2024 season, 3-1 at home against JVW FC in the league’s only Sunday fixture.

Gugu Dhlamini opened scoring for the university in the third minute, and the advantage was seen in follow-on scores by Thato Mofolo (15′) and substitute Bryden Mokobi (56’), JVW’s late score with Tanna Hollis (89′) too little to shift the balance.

University of the Western Cape’s Saturday 7-1 thashing of First Touch FC Ladies places the team at the head of the chasing pack all on four points, the UWC, Copper Belts Ladies and Richmond United all with one win and a draw in the first two weekends.

It was a tense opening 30 minutes in Cape Town on Saturday, but once Philisa Mjambane breached the wall in the 32nd minute, the First Touch walls came crumbling down at UWC Stadium, as the surge added Antonia Maponya’s name in the 38th minute, and continued in the second half with Mjambane (52′), Tiffany Kortjie (64′), Noxolo Cesane (70′) and Sibulele Holweni (82’) inflicting maximum damage. First Touch’s goal through Pulane Nzapesa to start the second half was slim consolation.

The Copper Belts Ladies FC overwhelmed Durban Ladies FC 4-1 at home, with goals by skipper Fiona Namanyana, Nomphelo Yakuphi, Thandi Rameri and Thembi Munyuku sealing the match over Amahle Mtshali’s lone goal for the visitors.

Richmond United upset Thunderbirds Ladies 0-2 with first-half goals by Peacemore Kenende and Onthatile Rossouw doing the damage at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London.
