Mariske Strauss Wins Confederation African Mountain Bike Champs

Multiple South African cross-country champion Mariske Strauss displayed a dominating performance to win the 2022 Confederation African Mountain Bike Championship in Windhoek, Namibia on Saturday, 23 April 2022.

Racing on one of the steepest and most technically demanding downhill tracks in Namibia, Strauss gained the lead from the opening lap and held on to the finish line where she claimed top honours in 01:32:26.

Strauss’s compatriot, Candice Lill placed second in 01:33:36, while Mary Patricia Le Court de Billiot of Mauritius settled for third-place in 01:37:51.

The elite women completed 5 laps of a 4.5km dusty and rocky track.

In the U23 women’s race, South Africa’s duo Andrea Schöfmann and Rimari Sutton claimed the gold and silver medals, respectively.

Podium Sweep for South Africa in the Junior Women’s Race

South African bikers put up an impressive display as they made a podium sweep in the junior women’s event.

Tyler Jacobs produced a stunning performance to win gold in 01:03:15 followed by Ada Kahl in 01:10:27, while Madison Mann and Lillian Baber finished 3rd and 4th, respectively.
