Maties are the 2022 Varsity Netball champions, after an impressive 68-55 victory over NWU Eagles at a sold out Coetzenburg Indoor Centre on Monday, 17 October 2022.

Going into the final, Maties were unbeaten and were eager to continue their positive form against their opponents.
In the first quarter of the match, Maties raced to an 8-0 lead, however the Eagles did not back down as they fought back to level the score at 15-all by the end of the quarter.
Going into the second quarter, the Maroon Machines extend their lead by 11 goals, going into the half-time break with the score at 33-22 in favour of Zanele Mdodana’s chargers.
In the third quarter, the home side continued to stretch their lead to 18 goals (53-35 by the end of the quarter).
Before Maties headed into the last quarter, Coach Mdodana gave them words of encouragement, saying: “15 minutes of everything you have, you build this margin do not let it slip!”

By the final whistle, Maties walked away as champions and maintained their unbeaten run.
